Beards with swag.

Assalaamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh...

And so he, who has a well-grown beard, walked past the Student Affairs Section with swag. No heads turned. No one seemed to want to whistle at his cool beard. His new khakis were folded above his ankles and his brand new black sandal he bought at a nearby kedai runcit for BND3 were so the "in" thing at the moment. A makcik nearby seemed to envy the sandal he was wearing. His lips were busy, mumbling what seemed to sound like a bunch of praise. All... praise... for...

Allah.

His gaze was lowered, but not his sight. He could still see clearly where he's heading to.

"Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what they do." [An-Nur ayah 30]

He could still spread salaam to anyone who passed by with no other intention but to spread good prayers for them. He could still give a warm smile to anyone he meets on his way to the Masjid, class, library - everywhere. He never speak bad things about anything, and he spreads love. Not hatred. Not judgement. His words are the best of words one has ever heard.

And tell My servants to say that which is best. Indeed, Satan induces [dissension] among them. Indeed Satan is ever, to mankind, a clear enemy. [Al-Isro' ayah 53]

Despite all his worries, he knew, that he has Allah by his side. His relationship with Allah is the closest. He never want to lay his eyes on anyone before he is able to carry the responsibility to guide, in a halal relationship. He knew, whoever Allah has set for him, she will only come when he is ready. And only Allah knows, when he is ready. He doesn't know, but he trusts Allah's plans. Because indeed, Allah is the Best Planner. There's no doubt about that.

And now he's heading to DMP, for a session with MYC to fill up his soul with friendship and soulfood. Most importantly, to be closer to his Creator... Allah.

He's got a beard, with much swag. Because he has Allah... all the time... in his heart.

Have you got a beard... with swag?

Yours Truly,
MYC.

A bitter struggle, a sweet rest.

Assalaamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh...

Be it over-the-top number of endless assignments, lots of food (and money to buy them) to choose from, lots of newly-arrived shawls and jubahs, a random text from a not-so-strange stranger and your heart skips a beat every time you hear his/her steps, even iMak-iPong new editions hot hot on the market; those are all but mere struggles to overcome. Yes. Struggles. We have to overcome those struggles in order to detach our heart from this ever-so-temporary dunya. T-E-M-P-O-R-A-R-Y. Oh wow. So that saying, "This heart is gonna beat for you forever and ever" is a total lie. Astaghfirullahalazim.

One word: Mujahadah. There is no such thing as mujahadah if we want to stay the same. Change is the "in" thing right now. On the path to Allah's redha, we need to change everyday to be better. Mujahadah is always a struggle to a positive change. It's never inclined to changing back negatively to be on the edge of Fire. So when we struggle, and fight to overcome that struggle, we are Mujahadah-ing. And all those mentioned above, are all just Nafs - our ever so strong desire to put the world in our heart. So the correct condition we are in right now is, Mujahadatun Nafs - bermujahadah melawan hawa nafsu. Ain't that sound cool? You bet.

So how to succeed in this "to the end of time" battle? Here are some tips:

1. You gotta know the enemy.
If love monkey is your current struggle, always remember that it is temporary. The only One who loves you more than anything else is Allah, and hey, Allah is Permanent.
If food is your love monkey, then always know that too much eating do more harm than eating considerably.

2. You gotta make an extra effort to know Allah

We don't just memorise Allah's names, we understand them so we could fall in love with Him.

3. And so mingle with the right crowd who wants to overcome those struggles.

4. Sabr and solat.

And seek help through patience and prayer, and indeed, it is difficult except for the humbly submissive [to Allah ]. [Al-Baqarah: 45]

Do you know that a sincere solat also functions to give you strength to overcome those struggles? :)

So there you go. Do your best, and let Allah do the rest. Oh and by the way, the struggle is always bitter, but our rest in Jannah is always sweet. Really.

Yours Truly,
MYC.
